7th Jan. Tech Meeting

December 7 2009

Time for pizza, beer and tech talk! Join us for the monthly tech meeting starting at 4pm on 7th Jan. at JTeam's office. January topics are:

Introduction to Scala

Scala is a general purpose programming language designed to express common programming patterns in a concise, elegant, and type-safe way. It smoothly integrates features of object-oriented and functional languages, enabling Java and other programmers to be more productive. Code sizes are typically reduced by a factor of two to three when compared to an equivalent Java application.

Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS)

Many applications use some form of persistent storage to store its state. However, important information about this state is lost: why is the state as it currently is. Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) is an architectural style that makes a clear distinction between commands that change the application state and queries that expose the application state. In this presentation, Allard Buijze will describe the background of CQRS and elaborate on the possibilities that CQRS provides for aspects as audit trails, historic information, fraud analysis and scalability.

Attendance is free, but preregistration is required.

Open Source, One Year Later

JTeam's Chief Architect Jettro Coenradie has recently published another article in Computable entitled "Open Source- One Year Later". This article illustrates the lessons learned from one specific project where the initial choice was between a propriatary technology and an open source toolset. Jettro covers differences that result in the areas of bug fixing, release management, patches, API's, upgrades, support and maintainance depending on the choice for open source v/s propriatary technology.
